First student’s internship on the Grace project

The Grace project is in the core of its activities, and its content starts raising interest and opportunities.
Thanks to the Grace website, Samar Ehab El-Bahrawi, a student of the German University in Cairo, got in contact with Università Politecnica delle Marche and had the opportunities to live an experience on automated vision systems for online quality control, collaborating at the Grace project.

Here, the story of her experience:

“I’m Samar Ehab El-Bahrawi a mechatronics student at the German University in Cairo. I completed a three months internship at Università Politecnica delle Marche. My period at Università Politecnica delle Marche gave me the chance to participate in the Grace project.

My work mainly focused on automated vision systems for online quality control. The automation of online quality control took place by comparing images taken periodically from the production line using a mobile robot and comparing them with a predefined template. This template matched the correct specifications that should be achieved in order to attain the high quality required for the production. The comparison was achieved using different matching methods for part recognition in vision assistant such as geometric matching, pattern matching edge detection etc. While the sequencing and relation between the matching algorithms required Lab view programming.

Also during my time at Università Politecnica delle Marche I took part in a three day course on Multi-Agent technology hosted by Prof. Paulo Leitão (IPB-Polytechnic Institute of Bragança) and had the chance to learn about intelligent manufacturing control systems as well as an over view of the GRACE-project.

My experience of participating in the Grace project was a valuable one that helped me to better understand the production industry in all its different aspects and its developing technologies.
