Siemens AG is represented in this project by Siemens Corporate Technology, Department of Project Engineering. Department of Project Engineering has long-term experience in: Design & engineering processes for manufacturing systems (as well as other industrial control systems for industries such as buildings & security, logistics, power distribution, power generation and public transportation), engineering methodologies, model-driven plant engineering and modularisation, key performance indicators for measuring plant design productivity, integration of manufacturing components, formalization of information models for manufacturing processes and components. Moreover the group has participated in several EU and national funded projects, developing engineering concepts and methodology for Distributed Manufacturing Systems and applying them in industrial use cases.

Role
Siemens AG will act as an industrial system integrator and solution provider for manufacturing automation systems contributing knowledge and experience on the characteristics of manufacturing systems and their design. The goal of Siemens AG is to improve ease of use, integration capability and operational agility of industrial control, execution systems and related processes by combining affordable and proven system & software technology, powerful information modeling and well understood, established and proven engineering paradigms. Siemens Corporate Technology, Department of Project Engineering will regard all technical aspects of the project from the viewpoint of engineering of manufacturing systems und thus strengthen the focus on comprehensive transferability and applicability of the GRACE production platform. Out contribution is focused on methodological support for using the GRACE platform in other application cases and domains beyond the test case of this project in order to design, realize, install, and commission other manufacturing systems. In the project we will develop a holistic and modular engineering methodology for a knowledge-based factory enabling the efficient use of self-adapting production platforms for realizing manufacturing systems with respect to production objectives and technical conditions of the particular system.
